The team composed of Michael S, Michael M, Sydney , Joe . Judy, Jennifer , Adrian, Teo, Margarite, Kathy, Nancy, Betsy, Nick, Scott (not all in the picture above) worked on over 100 runners out of the 1800 who participated in the Half Marathon on Sunday, January 16, 2011.
About the Sports Massage Team
Since 1985 FSMTA has recognized that there is a need for a standard basic training in Pre & Post Event Sports Massage for those therapists who wish to participate and provide massage at athletic events. Taking the FSMTA Sports Massage Team training is required to become an FSMTA Sports Team member. This requirement ensures that all active members have the same basic knowledge and understanding of how to deal with professional, semi-professional, collegiate and novice athletes. Each chapter has its own Sports Massage Committee. The committee chair for the Southwest Florida Chapter is Michael Schmetterer, telephone: 239-560-9430. 1. What is required to be on the FSMTA Sports Massage Team?
Have an active massage therapy license (LMT) in the State of Florida;
Must have taken the FSMTA Official Sports Massage Team training course;
Must have current professional liability insurance;
Be willing to adhere to policies, procedures and techniques as set down by
the Sports Massage Committee/Director;
Supply personal equipment needed to operate at any event.
2. What are the benefits of becoming a member of the FSMTA Sports Massage Team?

4. What is the cost of the FSMTA Sports Massage Team training?
The cost of the official 4-hour course with an approved Instructor is $65.00.
An official FSMTA Sports Massage Team Manual ill be provided and discussed
during the course. This class is approved for 4 CEU’s by the Florida Board of
Massage Therapy towards the biannual license renewal.

How to prepare for and conduct a sports massage event;
How to perform a 4-5 minute pre event sports massage routine;
How to perform an 8-10 minute post event sports massage routine;
How to interact with athletes;

6. Is there anything else that must be done after taking the FSMTA Sports Massage Team training?
You must complete and sign an FSMTA Sports Massage Team Application
and Membership Requirements Form then return them to the FSMTA Central Office.
