Sat., October 18, 2008 - Warm Mineral Springs Day (35 signed up as of 8/31/08)
Be sure to sign up if you want the free CE classes. If you are not attending classes, there is no need to  up. Just show pic5up at the gate and present your FSMTA card, or your DOH license (card). The Southwest     Chapter of FSMTA is kicking off Massage Therapy Awareness Week (MTAW) with a grand celebration on October 18, 2008 at Warm Mineral Springs in North Port, Florida. Entry is free. MTAW is from 10/19 to 10/25 where massage therapists state-wide bring attention to massage in various and creative ways. Our Chapter will host this 2nd annual all-day, fun-in-the-sun event in partnership with the management of Warm Mineral Springs. Entry is free to participating LMTs and to the public (except public pays $11/pp for swimming, where swimming is free to LMTs). This event is being promoted state-wide so members from other Chapters will be joining us. See the day's agenda below. Free CEU classes to FSMTA members, $20 to non-member LMTs (the $20 fee will apply towards your membership if you join the FSMTA that day.)  LMTs, bring your FSMTA membership card to get into classes, and bring your table and chairs to give mini-massages to the public. Warm Mineral Springs is the original fountain of youth made famous by explorer Ponce de Leon. It  has a lovely, quaint, old-Florida feel. Two classrooms, a large warm pool, outdoor lawns, shade trees, flowers, space for 40 vendors, a cafe for eating, a tent to serve as FSMTA headquarters. One area of the warm springs pool will be roped off for water demonstrations.  Bring your family and friends and enjoy the day. Free Mini-Treatments and Larger Treatments
11am-3pm:  Licensed massage therapists and other modality therapists will be offering free 10-minute mini-treatments to the general public. Larger treatments can be offered for a small love donation which will benefit the Brotherhood of Veterans, Inc. Therapists are to send these clients to The Springs Canopy where monies will be collected prior to treatment and a receipt given to the client for presentation to the treating therapist veryfing monies donated. Therapists do not need to offer treatments to the general public after 3:00pm, so they can enjoy the Springs Waters and the Meditation/Sound Journey.
CEU Classes for LMTs (free to FSMTA members by presenting your FSMTA card, $20 non-members)
8:30am-10:30am:  Aaron Mattes - Active Isolated Stretching (the Mattes Method)
11:00am-1:00pm:  Dolores Gozzi: Aromatherapy that really works in your practice.
1:30pm-3:30pm:    Stacey Joiner: Slipstream Therapy (using rubber cups for negative pressure release) 
CEU classes are located in the Longevity Center.
3:30 pm Meditation and Sound Journey
Zan "Buitterfly Deerwoman" Benhan takes you into the healing waters of the Springs, as well as the hidden Sacred Pine Forest. The Journey will take you into the western gate of the medicine wheel known as the "looks within time", for vision, healing, surrender, and soothing help and guidance.

July 2009 - FSMTA 2009 Annual Convention
The dates and location of next year's convention will be from Wednesday, July 8 through Sunday July 12, 2009, at the Omni Orlando Resort at Championsgate, Orlando, Florida. Applications for CE speakers and convention themes will be selected at the Fall quarterly meeting. The Omni's website: http://www.omnihotels.com/FindAHotel/OrlandoChampionsGate.aspx .  Every summer the FSMTA holds its annual state convention and trade show somewhere in Florida.
