February 27-28, 2010 - Gator Stomp & Swamp Cabbage Festival
LMTs are needed for the annual Gator Stomp and Swamp Cabbage Festival in Labelle over the weekend of February 27 and 28, 2010. This annual get-together happens on the last weekend of February every year. The Gator Stomp is a 5K run in the morning and then the Swamp Cabbage Festival in the afternoon really close to 2nd VP Sherrie Easterly's office in Labelle. Traditionally the LMTs use tables for the runners, chairs for the festival-goers. They set up their chairs on the sidewalk in front of Sherrie's office, right across the street from the festival - a perfect location. The going rate is $1 a minute. If you'd like to join the fun and earn a little money, call Mic for more details. Michael (Mic) Schmetterer, 239-560-9430 or email goodhealthforall@ymail.com. But he would rather you telephoned. He's not good on the keyboard.

March 20, 2010 - Bruce Ham: Qi Renewal Seminar
Master Bruce Chongman Ham returns from Austria to give a QI Renewal Seminar. From 9:30 am to 4 pm. LMT and FSMTA member Bruce Ham, age 35, from Seoul, South Korea, is martial arts-trained from age 10. He learned Shiatsu from the age of 13, to relieve pain from competition for himself and others. Later he earned a PhD in Holistic Health and has been an LMT for the past 16 years. He also has training in Feng Shui which is not just placement of furniture, but the art of analyzing individual energy. Bruce has been teaching in Germany and has had a practice in Austria for the past 16 months. Prior to that he had a practice in Naples, where he was active in our Southwest Chapter, presenting Qi Gong energy workshops. He explains Qi as when I-75 gets too busy and everything slows down, that's what happens to meridians in the body. You need more energy if you're going to work on others, he says. Therapists hurt themselves because they don't recharge. He teaches how to feel energy. The Qi Renewal seminar teaches techniques to open and activate your energy. How to open the different levels of the energy field. It will enhance the effects of other therapies such as energy work, acupuncture, massage and yoga. You will gain the knowledge of Hara. These techniques will benefit the relief of symptoms like headache, neck and back pain, anxiety, fatigue and scar tissues. You will learn how to protect yourself while performing therapeutic work. The Qi Renewal techniques work on a physical, emotional and spiritual level. The workshop takes place at the PB Light Center on Heritage Trail, located off Davis Boulevard in East Naples between Airport Rd and County Barn. To register, call 239-571-3509 or pblightcenter@gmail.com. Cost is $150 with organic lunch included. Register in advance for seating is limited.

July 7 - 11, 2010 - FSMTA Annual Convention 2010
Mark your calendar for the 2010 Annual convention. This is the big day for massage therapists in Florida and is held every July in Orlando. The convention used to be held in various cities around Florida, but it was found to be more efficient to remain in the area of the central office. There will not be a Chapter meeting in July to allow everyone to focus on the convention. For a list of presenters, room prices, discount opportunities, pictures of past events and more, go to www.fsmta.org . Debra Ziebell is handling car-pooling and room-sharing for our chapter to cut costs. Contact Debra at <llebeizarbed1@yahoo.com>, or phone 239-694-0839

July 25, 2010 - Free All-Mandatories Day
Well, not quite free - it will cost you $5 for lunch. This is an amazing gift to members of the Chapter. President Terry Lowder and CE provider  has scheduled an "All-Mandatories Day" on Sunday, July 25, 2010, in which he will provide the required 7 CEs covering all the mandatory subjects needed for the two-year period ending August 31, 2011. This is taking place a year ahead of time so as not to compete with the schools who also give CE classes. The cost will be only $5.00 for members (for lunch). Non-members will pay $105.00. Terry is donating the proceeds to our Southwest Florida Chapter. As we all know, the benefit of belonging to FSMTA is getting CE hours at chapter meetings. Last year the Chapter provided 26 CE hours at the meetings. No other chapter has ever done that before. It's $15 an hour to buy CE's retail on the open market. Our dues are $125 a year or only $300 for three years. We need 25 hours of continuing education every two years on odd-numbered years (2011, 2013, 2015). If you pay for your CEs on the open market you pay $375 ($15 x 25 = $375). If you get your CE's at chapter meetings you pay $250 on the annual enrollment plan (or $200 for two years on the three-year plan). That's $125 to $175 less in real money. The All-Mandatories Day will include two hours each on FL Law, Ethics and Medical Errors, and one hour of HIV/AIDs. To reserve space and get on the list, pay $5 at the next meeting. Give it to Robyn Berry, Treasurer.
